Admissions

Starting school is a very important step for both you and your child. To help you find the right school we would love to welcome you to visit us. Please contact the School Office on 0161 766 6298 for details of our EYFS Open Days or to arrange an individual visit to school.

We follow Bury Local Authority admissions process and Bury Local Authority is responsible for Reception Class admission procedures. For further information from the Local Authority on how to apply for a place at our school, please click here or contact Bury Admissions Team on 0161 253 6474

If you are interested in your child attending our Nursery then please click here to complete the Nursery application form.

Starting Reception:

Most children start their school journey by joining the Reception class in the September of the school year in which they turn five. We work hard to ensure your child has a smooth transition into school and if your child is allocated a place at our school we will visit your child at home or at nursery before they start with us. We also invite children in to attend stay and play sessions in the setting giving them a chance to learn all about their new environment, their new teacher and to meet their new class. Please click here to apply for a place in our Reception class.

We offer similar transition support to children joining our Nursery class. The Nursery application form can be found here.

In Year Intake

If you would like to apply for a school place outside of the September Reception intake, please contact the School Office on 0161 766 6298 for details of class sizes and availability. Once you know there is an available place, you need to apply formally through Bury Council via the following link: In Year Admissions.

Parents/carers and children transferring from another school are encouraged to visit the school for a pre-transfer welcome visit to ensure they have all the information required prior to starting.

The Hive Resourced Provision

Admission to the Hive is via the Bury Sen Team. The robust referral and consultation process ensures that children who enter The Hive Resourced Provision at Mersey Drive Primary School enjoy stable and successful educational placements.

Entry into The Hive, the Resourced Provision at Mersey Drive, is made through a referral process to Bury SEN team. These referrals are usually made via the pupil’s school SENDCo but can be made via a parent as part of the Education Health and Care Plan or Annual Review Process. Once a referral is received by the SEN team a panel will consider the needs and learning profile of each individual.

This decision is independent of Mersey Drive Primary School and a child’s current school placement bears no relevance to their access to the provision. Please click here for further information.

Transition to High School

We view the transition to High School as just as important as the start of your child’s school journey. We work closely with local high schools to support our pupils to have the best start at High School. This includes supporting transition visits to High Schools once places are allocated, liaising closely with colleagues in High School and facilitating visits from key staff to enable them to meet our pupils. We also offer enhanced transition to any pupil who may need additional support.
