Art

At Mersey Drive Community Primary School, we know that our children learn best when they are inspired and engaged in creative activities. Our high quality art curriculum has been carefully designed to inspire and challenge our pupils and provide them with opportunities to appreciate art and to learn from artists and designers from a diverse range of backgrounds and eras. Tactile and visual experiences ignite the children’s imaginations and encourage them to explore ideas and meanings through the work of a range of artists and designers. As pupils progress through our curriculum, they develop the necessary skills and knowledge to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, exploring colour, texture, form and pattern using a range of mediums. Pupils learn about the roles and functions of art and develop critical thinking skills. We foster a culture which promotes the enjoyment of visual arts and allows children of all abilities to communicate what they see, feel and think, empowering them to be able to consider how art and design both reflect and shape our history, and contribute to the culture, creativity and wealth of our nation.
